The term “baptism of the Spirit” has been wrongly understood in the church for many years. Being born again and being baptized in the Holy Spirit are two different experiences, and every child of God is entitled to both.

For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ (Galatians 3:27). Notice it says baptized into Christ, not merely in His Name. You were immersed into Him; His life, His nature and His righteousness became yours.

That’s a change of citizenship. You were transferred out of the kingdom of darkness and translated into the Kingdom of God’s dear Son (Colossians 1:13). The old life, with everything that belonged to it, is gone.

So when the enemy reminds you of who you used to be, remind him of who you are now: a new creature, in Christ, seated together with Him in heavenly places.

Prayer: Dear Father, thank you for baptizing me into Christ and for the new life that is mine in Him. I live today conscious of my new nature and my new citizenship, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
